Biological treatment in contaminated soils
Biological remediation is a process, during which natural microorganisms recycle specific contaminants. After a series of chemical reactions, organic waste undergoes metabolism, and turns into water, carbon dioxide and other un-toxic by-products. These chemical reactions provide the microbes with the needed energy to develop and multiply. Thanks to this process, the organic waste is digested and it disappears from the environment without toxic leftovers. When the contamination is eliminated, the microbes don't receive any more carbonic energy and die.
